Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery
As thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disease of the heart, lungs, chest, esophagus and major blood vessels of the body. Our physicians at Shannon are proud to offer the Concho Valley and surrounding area the most specialized and innovative cardiac, thoracic and vascular care. We have continually provided care for congestive and degenerative conditions of the heart and vascular system for over 20 years. Pulmonary (lung), esophageal, and chest wall conditions continue to be a strong focus of innovation and advancement at Shannon Medical Center. The thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons continue to be a driving force in the battle against cancer.
Our offices are located adjacent to the hospital and other Shannon Clinic facilities. All diagnostic and treatment procedures can be performed within our medical campus without having to travel to different cities or even across town.
Mission statement and commitment
The mission of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Department at Shannon Medical Center is to continue the tradition of providing the people of the Concho Valley and surrounding areas the most comprehensive and progressive cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgical services delivered with compassion, integrity and dignity while emphasizing accessibility, dependability, patients' rights and community commitment. Our commitment to provide the most comprehensive and progressive thoracic, cardiac and vascular surgical services in the Concho Valley is achieved through a team approach. Our coverage is everyday and all day without interruption at Shannon Medical Center.
Shannon's Thoracic and Cardiovascular Department has been providing state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical procedures of the heart, lung, chest and major blood vessels for over 20 years. Shannon physicians have performed many medical firsts in the Concho Valley. Surgeons at Shannon Medical Center performed the first coronary artery bypass graft surgery in 1988, the first valve replacement in 1989, the first off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery in 2000 and the first endoluminal replacement of thoracic aortic aneurysm in 2011. In 2012, the first video-assisted thorascopic lung lobectomy for cancer was performed.
While most of our services continue to involve coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacement and repair, and aortic surgery, we pride ourselves on the care of the whole patient and their family. The surgeons continue their pioneering spirit by exploring and providing innovative techniques to better care for the people of the Concho Valley.
