Continued Learning For Patients And Loved Ones

Medical care always comes with questions from patients and their family members, especially when dealing with an injury or illness that the patient hasn’t experienced before. At Shannon, we’re here to provide you with the answers you’re looking for.

We don’t want any patient or visitor to feel confused or insecure about medical requirements or treatment care plans. That’s why we’ve compiled a wealth of information into our health library, so you can quickly and conveniently search for answers to questions as they pop up.

In addition to our health library, we also offer a selection of e-newsletters that you can sign up for to receive news regarding research, advice, studies, recommendations, and more.

You can also find informational events near you by reviewing our calendar. For more specific questions or in-depth answers, don’t hesitate to reach out to a Shannon staff member.

We can be reached at either of our two locations listed below:

Continued Learning For Parents

Whether or not your child requires medical care for an illness or injury, all parents can benefit from continued learning courses on how to raise kids to be as healthy and safe as possible. Shannon offers a comprehensive selection of eLearning parent courses with tools and support for both new and experienced parents alike.

These courses include a variety of resources for pregnancy, childbirth, and infancy, including:

  • Evidence-based information on prenatal care, labor, birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care.

  • Information specific to your arrival and stay at Shannon Medical Center.

  • List of available classes and support groups.

  • Kick counter, contraction timer, personal journal, feeding log, and immunization log.

To register for these courses, contact Robyn Tucker at 325.747.6332 or RobynTucker@shannonhealth.org. Once registered, videos can be accessed and watched through www.myyomingo.com.

Did you know the CDC ranks Texas as sixth in the nation for obesity rates? That’s why in addition to these courses, Shannon also hosts an annual CATCH® in Motion Kids Marathon Celebration Event that we encourage all parents to attend with their children. This event was created to promote healthy habits to children at a young age and demonstrate the fun that can come with physical exercise.

The goal of this event is for each participating student to walk or run a total of 26 miles around the track from beginning to end. However, all students are invited to join in the Celebration Lap at the end of the event, regardless of distance accomplished!

Parents and students can also participate in activities provided by community-based organizations and learn about programs offered over the summer months to keep students active, busy, and motivated. In addition, the first 300 students will receive medals and Finisher T-shirts!
