Meet Our Residents
We are pleased to introduce the inaugural class of the of the Shannon Family Medicine Residency Program.
Evan Akene, MD
Hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Akene received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Texas Tech University and his Master’s degree in healthcare administration from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. He then served as a preceptee at a rural medicine clinic in Plainview, Texas through the Texas Academy of Rural Physicians. Dr. Akene completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas.
He previously worked as a student supervisor and graduate assistant in information technology (IT) at Texas Tech in Lubbock and mentored prospective medical students through the UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine in Galveston. Dr. Akene also served on the steering committee of St. Vincent’s Student-Run Free Clinic, a medical clinic caring for the uninsured population of Galveston run by medical students.
He paints as a personal hobby, and his acrylic paintings have been displayed in a public gallery in Galveston.
Dr. Akene is fluent in English and French.
Brian Dooley, MD
Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Dooley earned his undergraduate degree from Trinity College Dublin and his medical degree from the University College Dublin School of Medicine in Dublin. Having been born in Massachusetts, he completed family medicine rotations at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Dr. Dooley also has prior professional experience in pharmaceutical product testing through Eurofins BioPharma Product Testing in Columbia, Missouri.
While at Trinity College in Dublin, he volunteered as a student mentor in biochemistry and assisted with fundraising for Generating Empowerment through Learning, an organization focused on adult literacy programs for refugees in Guinea.
Dr. Dooley has previously tutored students of all ages in piano, guitar and English literature and has a personal interest in medieval history.
Aryanna Galindo, DO
Hailing from Odessa, Texas, Dr. Galindo received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, and her medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
Dr. Galindo is a certified professional in patient safety by the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety; this certification process focuses on patient safety science, human factors engineering and safe care practices. She has prior professional experience managing a family practice clinic in Odessa, Texas.
Dr. Galindo previously provided mentorship and guidance to underserved youth pursuing medicine-based careers through two volunteer organizations in Fort Worth. She also maintains a personal collection of over 100 house plants.
Dr. Galindo is fluent in English and Spanish.
Zelik Gil, DO
Hailing from McDonough, Georgia, Dr. Gil received his undergraduate degree at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia, and his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Georgia.
He has prior professional experience as an emergency department technician, registered nurse and charge nurse in an emergency medicine setting in Georgia.
Dr. Gil is a reservist for the United States Army. He serves as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol.
Dr. Gil is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Natalia Adams Holgerson, MD
Hailing from Corpus Christi, Texas, Dr. Holgerson earned her undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, and her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados. She has prior professional experience as a pharmacy technician.
Dr. Holgerson previously participated in a medical mission trip to Ghana as a clinical volunteer providing health screening clinics. She has also worked with hospice patients and families experiencing homelessness in volunteer settings in Florida.
Luis Madero, MD
Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Dr. Madero earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Guadalajara Medical School in Guadalajara. He then completed his internship in internal medicine at Juan I. Menchaca Civil Hospital in Guadalajara and his externship in emergency medicine at AdventHealth Kissimmee in Kissimmee, Florida.
Dr. Madero previously provided educational seminars and care focused on women’s health on a volunteer basis in Guadalajara, as well as participating in a free health clinic for under- and uninsured patients in Saint Cloud, Florida.
He trained as a folk dancer (ballet folklorico) for eight years and previously competed in folk dance competitions as a teenager. Dr. Madero also plays tennis as a hobby.
Dr. Madero is fluent in English and Spanish.
