Shannon Neuro Rehabilitation recently opened the doors to their new clinic, located on the Shannon South Campus at 3501 Executive Drive. The new outpatient facility is almost four times larger than the previous location, featuring a larger, more open floor plan; expanded therapy gym with additional equipment; private therapy rooms; space for group classes; and the potential to expand for more services in the future.
Shannon Neuro Rehabilitation is a specialized clinic focused on helping patients regain functionality after stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, concussion or other neurological conditions. It includes a team of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. Previously located on the Shannon St. John's Campus, this clinic began in 2016 with one therapist. Today it includes a full team, offering many modalities of therapy, and continues to grow to meet the needs of thousands of patients.
How We Help
"Our approach is to help patients improve their overall quality of life and gain functional improvement through movement," says Diana Moreland, PT, DPT, NCS. "Our job isn't to show patients what they can't do anymore, but rather show them how much they can do. We treat the entire patient, so we focus on providing services for physical movement, speech, occupational therapy and more to meet their holistic needs."
The team also includes a certified lymphedema therapist who offers treatment and management for lymphedema, including exercises, fitting for compression garments, lymphatic draining, compression wrapping and skin care. The clinic also provides custom wheelchair evaluations and has a speech therapy program called LSVT Loud, which helps people with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions.
More Space, More Services
With the availability of more space, Shannon Neuro Rehabilitation now offers a fee-based group exercise program. The new Community Fitness Program is intended to help individuals optimally and actively age by maximizing their mobility with daily movement, promoting accountability and providing social opportunities, in addition to improving cardiovascular, pulmonary and bone health.
Classes are one hour long, including warm-up and cooldown, and will focus on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. Workouts are designed and developed by a licensed physical therapist, and classes are instructed by exercise specialists who work directly with the therapist.
Anyone interested in enrolling in the Community Fitness Program is invited to first attend a free screening provided by Shannon Neuro Rehabilitation. These screenings will determine which class best meets the participant's needs and identify any additional needs for skilled services prior to their first class. Screenings will include assessments of vitals (blood pressure and heart rate), strength and balance or risk of falls.
