Tell us about you and your family.
My wife, Zhe, went to grad school for performance piano and is now a music therapist. We have three children—our daughter, Zola, and our two sons, Loc and Sun. Our family is very musical and loves to be outdoors. We spend a lot of time riding bikes and road-tripping. Even though I’ve lived in Texas most of my life, I was born in East Tennessee, so I like the mountains and felt a little bit of nostalgia after seeing the Twin Buttes here. I’m eager to learn more about the culture and lifestyle of San Angelo.
What made you choose your specialty?
Two of my mom’s sisters passed away from breast cancer when I was young. I think that kind of gave me a kick start to go down the oncology path. The more sciences I got into, I decided to go into medical school. I did a lot of research and just knew I wanted to go into oncology. After that, there was no question—I’ve wanted to kill cancer for a long time.
What drew you to Shannon?
When I started interviewing at different places, the San Angelo community stood out. My wife came with me and we just loved it here. We felt like it was a really good place to integrate our family and for me to start practicing. One of my goals is to be able to take care of all kinds of oncology, as well as hematology.
What are you most excited about?
I’m very excited about the new Shannon Cancer Center that will open in a few months. I thought that was a big plus to be a part of that as it developed and to watch it grow. I’m hopeful to bring more research here to provide new opportunities for patients and advance cancer care.
What can patients expect from you?
They can expect compassionate care. I want them to know I’m a normal person, just like they are. I’m here to take care of them and go down this road together as they’re struggling with this disease that we’re trying to take care of.
What’s your favorite health tip?
Move the body! I feel like I’m always telling everyone that. Keep your body in motion.
