For 90 years, Shannon’s mission has focused on providing exceptional care to our patients here in West Texas. We are proud to have a well-respected and clinically accomplished team of medical providers, focused on providing innovative care here at home so patients do not have to travel for their healthcare needs.

Shannon recently became a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, giving our doctors special access to the knowledge, expertise, and resources of Mayo Clinic. It allows our providers to combine their understanding of patients’ unique medical needs with Mayo Clinic expertise at no additional cost to patients.

“We are honored to join this prestigious network, which enables us to connect with the most respected and recognized healthcare system in the world,” says Shane Plymell, president and CEO of Shannon. “In addition to the trusted care of their Shannon physicians, patients will have access to Mayo Clinic expertise and the latest research and treatment recommendations for complex care. This means our family, friends, and neighbors throughout the region will receive some of the most advanced care in the nation, right here at Shannon.”

The Mayo Clinic Care Network is a select group of independent health systems carefully vetted by Mayo Clinic and granted special access to Mayo’s knowledge, expertise, and resources. Created in 2011, the Mayo Clinic Care Network has more than 45 member organizations across the U.S. and in Asia, India, Mexico and the Middle East. Shannon is the first healthcare organization in West Texas to join the network, and currently only the second member in Texas.

“Shannon was selected to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network by demonstrating a commitment to the highest quality, patient-centered care and passing Mayo’s comprehensive evaluation of our clinical and business practices, and our quality, safety and service efforts,” said Plymell.

As part of the network, Shannon doctors can quickly access Mayo’s latest research, diagnostic, and treatment resources whenever they feel it will benefit their patients.

“In just a few months, our Shannon providers have collaborated with Mayo Clinic on more than 27 e-consults in various medical specialties for input on treatment recommendations or care plans for their patients. Mayo Clinic includes physicians who sub-specialize in particular disciplines, so they may see certain complex cases more often in their practices and can share that knowledge with our specialists at Shannon.” said Doug Schultz, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Shannon Clinic.

Patients and families can also access educational information through the Mayo Clinic Care Network Library on Shannon's website. The library includes information on hundreds of health topics and procedures, health tips, first aid information, recipes, and more.
