Shannon has received four American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® and Mission: Lifeline® achievement awards for their commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer hospital readmissions.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death nationwide, respectively. Studies show patients recover better when providers consistently follow current treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association to work for hospitals across the country, ensuring patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. As a participating hospital, Shannon qualified for these awards by demonstrating organization-wide dedication to improving quality of care.
“Our team at Shannon is committed to enhancing the care we provide for heart attacks and strokes, and to following the latest treatment guidelines available when caring for our friends and neighbors,” said Rudy Haddad, MD, Shannon Clinic Interventional Cardiologist. “These programs allow us to put proven research and knowledge to work for heart attack and stroke patients on a daily basis, so we can help patients in San Angelo and the Concho Valley live longer, healthier lives.”
This year, Shannon received the following awards:
- Get With The Guidelines® - Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center – GOLD PLUS with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
- Get With The Guidelines® - Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI – GOLD with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
- Get With the Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
- Get With the Guidelines® - Heart Failure GOLD PLUS with Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
“These awards show Shannon’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Shannon can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for healthcare systems, families and communities.”
