LASIK PATIENT
Devin Koehler began wearing glasses in the first grade and grew up needing what he called ‘Coke bottle’ lenses.
“After 40 years of glasses, LASIK surgery was on my list of treatments to look into for a long time,” Devin noted. “When the procedure first came out, it was kind of discouraging; I was not a candidate because my vision was so bad.”
Devin underwent LASIK surgery at the Shannon Laser Eye Center in September of 2024, and noticed a drastic improvement in his vision almost immediately.
“Thanks to advancements in laser technology, I could actually receive LASIK in both eyes, and I was able to see better and drive without glasses in a matter of one or two days. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had followed up sooner and allowed myself to consider surgery again.”
The Koehler family leads an active lifestyle, with two boys who play youth sports. Devin also serves as the Scout Executive CEO of the Texas Southwest Council of Scouting America.
“Growing up, sports and outside activities weren’t in the cards for me because I knew glasses were delicate and expensive to replace. As an adult now, that means I’ve been spending between $700 and $800 per year on lenses for myself. I can participate in different things now, since I only use readers at the office. Now that I’ve had LASIK, my biggest hassle is figuring out what to do with all the extra pairs of glasses lying around,” Devin joked.
