San Angelo Skin Cancer Treatments
Diagnosis & Treatment of Skin Cancer
The skin is our body’s largest organ and is made up of several layers—the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells, and while this typically occurs on skin exposed to the sun, it can grow anywhere—affecting people of all skin tones. If you notice any changes in your skin, such as the development of small lesions, nodules, sores, or irregular moles, it is time to make an appointment with one of our specialists. These changes do not necessarily mean cancer, and your physician will thoroughly investigate the area to provide an effective diagnosis.
Beyond a superficial examination, we might recommend a skin biopsy, where we remove a small tissue sample for laboratory testing. This can help us determine if the cells are cancerous, and if so, what type of cancer is present.
At Shannon, we offer an array of skin cancer treatment options in San Angelo to ensure we can meet your needs, including medical, radiation, and surgical oncology services. Our trusted oncologists, cancer care specialists, and technologists utilize the most advanced equipment and technologies on the market, such as specialized radiotherapy and Image-Guided, Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IG-IMRT).
Types of Skin Cancer
The type and stage of skin cancer present will determine your treatment options. Superficial skin cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma, rarely spread to other areas, so a simple excision can successfully remove these small tumors. However, other cancer types, such as melanoma can spread to surrounding tissue as well as the lymph system and blood—making early detection incredibly important.
Types of skin cancer we treat include:
- Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
- Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
- Melanoma
- Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
- Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP)
- Merkel cell carcinoma
- Sebaceous carcinoma
From stage 0, where abnormal cells are found in situ, to stage four, where skin cancer cells are found in other parts of the body, you can count on our Shannon Oncology Center to have the equipment and expertise to provide customized care and support. In addition to surgery, radiation therapy, and drug treatments we offer emotional support and recovery care through our nurse navigation services and supportive care resources.
Our Shannon Oncology Center specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from cancer. Call us today at 325.747.2025 to learn more.
